Revelation 5 — seen whole
The chapter read as one picture before any verse is opened: what the scene shows, where it sits in the continuous story, and the chain references that hold it to the rest of Scripture.
3.3 Revelation 4–5 — The Throne, the Book, and the Lamb
The second vision opens “a door… in heaven”: the throne room — the Holy Place furniture assembling (SHOWBREAD: the covenant document and the table of presence). Twenty-four elders (the courses of the priesthood, redeemed humanity’s representatives — “we shall reign on the earth” is their own account, 5:9–10 — likely among those raised at Christ’s resurrection, ); four living creatures (the cherubim of and 10, the standards of Israel’s four camps: lion, ox, man, eagle — creation’s four faces around its King); of glass, lamps of fire.
In the right hand of Him that sits on the throne: a book sealed with seven seals — the title deed and testament of history, which “no man in heaven, nor in earth” can open. John weeps — heaven’s history locked, the promises unexecutable — until an elder says the gospel in one sentence: “Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book.” John turns to see a Lion — “and I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne… stood a as it had been slain” (5:5–6). The Lion is the Lamb; the conquest is the cross. Seven (all power), seven eyes (all sight, the sevenfold Spirit), and a new song with the harvest of every kindred, nation, and tongue. Everything that follows in this book — seals, , plagues, ’s fall — proceeds from this scene: history unsealed by the slain Lamb, or not at all.

The numbers one through seven in Revelation represent a complete cycle of time. The sequence of seven indicates a full and complete period, as seen in the seven churches, seals, and trumpets.
The seven churches, seals, and trumpets in Revelation unfold simultaneously within the context of the holy place. The priest in the Old Testament ministered at all articles of furniture in the holy place simultaneously, indicating a parallel unfolding.
