The ending both books share
The stone kingdom
A stone cut out without hands becomes a mountain that fills the whole earth — the only kingdom in the vision with no successor.
See it
No hands quarry it, no army carries it, and it grows until it is the landscape. Everything metal becomes chaff before it — gold, silver, brass, iron and clay together, “and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them.”
Cut out without hands
The phrase is the whole doctrine of the chapter. Every other kingdom in the dream was quarried by human hands — armies, treaties, dynasties. This one is not built by men at all, which is why no political programme, revival movement or Christian nation can be it.
Not gradual conquest
The stone strikes the feet, not the head, and it strikes before it fills the earth. It arrives at the end of the sequence rather than growing quietly through it — so the kingdom does not creep over the world by Christianising the metals. It ends them.
A mountain, and a temple
The stone becomes “a great mountain” that fills the whole earth — mountain language for the place where God dwells with His people (Isaiah 2:2; Revelation 21:10). The Rock is named elsewhere as Christ Himself (1 Corinthians 10:4; Matthew 21:44), the stone that either becomes a foundation or falls.
Revelation's version
The same ending appears as the seventh trumpet's announcement — “the kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord” — then as the marriage supper, the throne, and the city descending. Daniel gives the metals; Revelation gives the wedding. One story told twice.
Why the dream ends here
Daniel 2 closes on a kingdom, not on a crisis — “it shall stand for ever.” That is the reason the statue is worth studying at all: the sequence is not a countdown to fear, it is the itinerary of a returning King.
