The fixed points
Interpretive safeguards
Every commentary note, chain reference, and apologetic in this app is written under the rules below. They are settled, not open questions, and the study engine is forbidden from contradicting or softening them. They are published here so you can check the framework rather than trust it blindly.
- 01
Symbolic prophetic time is reckoned a day for a year.
Why: Numbers 14:34 and Ezekiel 4:6 state the principle explicitly, and Daniel's own periods only resolve on that scale.
Never affirmed: Literal-day readings of the 1260, 1290, 1335, 2300 and 490 day periods.
- 02
The little horn of Daniel 7 and the little horn of Daniel 8 is papal Rome — never Antiochus IV Epiphanes.
Why: The horn of Daniel 8 rises out of the Greek era but waxes 'exceeding great' toward the latter time, magnifies itself against the Prince of the host, and endures to the time of the end. Antiochus never ruled Rome's territory, never persecuted for 1260 years, and died in 164 BC.
Never affirmed: The Antiochus identification in every form, including as a partial or 'type-only' fulfilment offered as the primary answer.
- 03
The fourth kingdom of Daniel 2 and Daniel 7 is Rome, and its divided iron-and-clay stage is the nations of Europe.
Why: Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece and Rome are named or unmistakably described within Daniel itself; the sequence is unbroken.
Never affirmed: Greek-only schemes that split Medo-Persia into two kingdoms in order to end the vision before Rome.
- 04
The 70 weeks are 490 years running from the decree of Artaxerxes in 457 BC to AD 34, with Messiah confirming the covenant and being cut off in the midst of the final week, AD 31.
Why: Daniel 9:25-27 anchors the count to a decree to restore Jerusalem and terminates it at the cross and the gospel going to the nations.
Never affirmed: Any gap inserted between the 69th and 70th week, and any future seven-year tribulation built on that gap.
- 05
The 2300 days of Daniel 8:14 are 2300 years, sharing the 457 BC starting point with the 70 weeks and reaching AD 1844, when the judgment scene of Daniel 7 and the cleansing of the sanctuary begin.
Why: Daniel 9 is given as the explanation of the 2300-day vision Daniel could not bear in chapter 8; the 490 is cut off from the longer period.
Never affirmed: A 1150-day 'evening-morning' halving, and any Maccabean terminus.
- 06
The 1260 days / 42 months / time, times and dividing of time span AD 538 to 1798.
Why: Five separate statements across Daniel 7, Daniel 12 and Revelation 11-13 describe one period of dominance over the saints, bounded by the establishment and the captivity of the same power.
Never affirmed: A future literal three and a half years assigned to an individual antichrist.
- 07
Prophecy runs continuously from the prophet's own day to the second advent. There is no parenthesis, postponement, or rebuilt empire waiting offstage.
Why: Daniel 2:44 places God's kingdom at the end of an unbroken chain, and every vision Daniel receives is dated and sequenced from where he stood.
Never affirmed: Dispensational futurism: a secret rapture, a rebuilt-temple sacrificial system as the prophetic centre, and a single end-time antichrist who has not yet appeared.
- 08
Revelation is not exhausted by the first century. Nero is not the beast and AD 70 is not the consummation.
Why: Revelation's own timeline reaches the resurrection, the millennium, and the new earth — events plainly still future when Jerusalem fell.
Never affirmed: Full and partial preterism as a total explanation, including gematria arguments that make Nero the sole referent of Revelation 13:18.
- 09
Every symbol is defined from Scripture, with the defining verse shown.
Why: Daniel 7:23 defines the beast, Revelation 17:15 defines the waters, Revelation 12:9 defines the dragon, Jeremiah 4:11-13 defines the winds.
Never affirmed: Meanings imported from mythology, news cycles, or private impression.
- 10
Daniel 2, 7, 8 and 11 retell one storyline with increasing detail; Revelation's series do the same.
Why: Each vision restarts in the prophet's own era and runs to the kingdom of God, so parallel scenes must be read together, not chained end to end.
Never affirmed: Treating a later vision as a wholly new subject picking up where the previous one stopped.
- 11
Revelation is read through its Old Testament sources. Its language is quotation before it is innovation.
Why: Babylon, Egypt, Sodom, Balaam, Jezebel, Babel, the sanctuary, the exodus plagues and Ezekiel's temple all reappear as deliberate echoes.
Never affirmed: Reading a Revelation image as a novel picture when the Old Testament has already used it.
- 12
No date is ever set for the second advent, and no living person or party is identified as a prophetic figure by name.
Why: Matthew 24:36. Prophecy identifies movements, powers and principles — never individuals awaiting a headline.
Never affirmed: Predictive date-setting and naming contemporary politicians as the beast, the false prophet, or the antichrist.
